A Legend : Soumitra Chatterjee
Soumitro Chatterjee
A Moment I Will Always Treasure
On 23rd August 2020, I had the rare and unforgettable opportunity to work with the legendary Soumitra Chatterjee — just two months before his passing. It was more than a shoot; it was a moment of grace, humility, and quiet brilliance that left a lasting mark on my heart.
To be in the presence of such an iconic artist, capturing his expressions through my lens, felt like the greatest reward of my photography journey. His warmth, depth, and quiet dignity spoke volumes, even without words.
I will forever hold this experience as a lifetime honor — a moment when my art met history.
About Soumitra Chatterjee
Soumitra Chatterjee (1935–2020) was a towering figure in Indian cinema and theatre. Best known for his long-standing collaboration with legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray, he debuted as the iconic Apu in Apur Sansar (1959), the final film of the acclaimed Apu Trilogy.
Over six decades, he became a cultural icon — an actor, poet, playwright, and intellectual whose contributions transcended generations. His roles in films like Charulata, Ghare Baire, Ashani Sanket, and Sonar Kella remain timeless.
Recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Padma Bhushan, Legion of Honour (France), and multiple National Awards, he was not just an actor — he was an era.
To have captured even a few frames of such a monumental life was nothing short of a blessing.
Soumitra Chatterjee will live on — not just through his films, but in the hearts of those who admired his spirit and simplicity.
